A certified public accountant and attorney, Bret concentrates his practice on helping private business owners properly structure their business transactions to achieve their financial goals. Bret began his career at Mize, Houser in 1996 performing tax, audit and consulting work for mid-sized businesses in a number of industries. In 2001, Bret left the firm and joined the Kansas City-based Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin law firm, where he focused his law practice on federal, state and local tax planning, as well as estate planning, trusts and estate work. Through his combined legal and accounting experiences, Bret brings a unique ability to design creative, yet practical, strategies for business owners.
Bret is currently a shareholder in Mize, Houser’s Overland Park office. Bret graduated summa cum laude from DeVry University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, magna cum laude from Washburn University with a Juris Doctorate degree, and summa cum laude from the University of Missouri - Kansas City with an LLM in Taxation. Bret is a member of the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Bar Association, and the Kansas and Missouri Bars.
